2004 Emmy Award-Winning Chapter

In October 2003, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists spearheaded a partnership with CN8 and the Philadelphia chapters of the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association to produce the first of the three mayoral debates between Democratic Mayor John Street and his Republican challenger Sam Katz. With the discovery of an FBI-planted bug in Street's office as a backdrop, moderator and former NABJ president Arthur Fennell orchestrated a debate that managed to stick to issues important to Philadelphians while addressing the controversy.

In 2004, PABJ and CN8 were given the Mid-Atlantic Emmy for Best Public Affairs Program for their efforts.
