Artists Among Us: A Celebration
of Journalists
Dec. 6, 2002
More than 20 media professionals participated
in this year's event, which raised money for the PABJ scholarship fund.
A special participant was cartoonist Robb Armstrong, creator of the comic
strip, "Jump Start." The event, held at the African American
Museum in Philadelphia, also featured a silent auction and readings by
many of the media professionals.

"I'm Telling." This literary event of the summer took place

Media Access Workshop
May 18, 2002
More than 100 representatives from community
organizations, businesses and the public relations field came out a wet
and rainy Saturday to ask questions, get answers and mingle with nearly
50 journalists. Held May 18 at the Inquirer Daily News building, the workshop
featured small group sessions that allowed the participants to learn ways
to get their events covered. You can learn some of the tips gleaned from
our 1999 workshop.
A tip
from the workshop ended up as a wonderful story in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
We also would like to thank our 2002 sponsor Peco Energy.

Reception for new Phila.
Inquirer editor
April 16, 2002
PABJ invited representatives from communities
of color to meet and greet Walker Lundy Jr., the new editor of the Philadelphia
Inquirer. Philadelphia Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell joined about 30 other
people to question Lundy about his plans for the newspaper regarding their
communities, his position race and his focus for the newspaper. Many of
those present were readers of the paper. The group asked him to return
to the community in about six months to report on what actions he had
taken at the newspaper. Comments about the reception were positive. The
event was sponsored by PABJ and the West Philadelphia Partnership.
