Speak at Membership Drive Event
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists invites you to come out to meet and hear Farai Chideya, well-known journalist and anchor of "Pure Oxygen," a primetime show on the women's network Oxygen, during its annual membership drive. Chideya will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in the Public Room at the Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News building, 400 N. Broad St.
Chideya will speak on the role and responsibility of the media on the issue of race relations in a changing America. Her book, "The Color of Our Future," discusses the future of race through the eyes of young Americans of all color.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at this fundraising event.
A former ABC correspondent, Chideya has covered a range of issues from youth to politics. In 1996, she spent the presidential election season as a CNN political analyst, and was named to the New York Daily News' "Dream Team" of political reporters and commentators. In 1997, Newsweek named her to its "Century Club" of 100 people to watch.
Her first book, "Don't Believe the Hype," takes a look at the cultural misinformation about African Americans.
"The Color of Our Future" will be available free to journalists, freelancers, journalism students and public relations professionals who join PABJ. It will be sold for $10 (a sharp discount of its $23.95 hardback price) to the public.
