HAD SOME BIG FUN
Thirty-five journalists, their families, friends and co-workers dined at the Great American Hamburger, toured the Wild Safari and just had loads of fun on the Superman, Batman and the Saw Mill Log Flume rides at Six Flags Great Adventure and the Wild Safari in Jackson, N.J., Sat., July 26, 2003. It was all part of the Region II Chapters Fellowship Day - a time for networking. The Garden State Association of Black Journalists, the New York Association of Black Journalists and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists teamed up to sponsor the event. Photos.

SOUL CAFE
The Pittsburgh chapter produced a successful second annual Soul Cafe at the Rosebud on Sun., July 27, 2003. A crowd of 150 persons attended, enjoying poets, musicians, authors, singers and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will be used to sustain the PBMF Scholarship Fund. NEW YORK ASSOCIATION
OF BLACK JOURNALISTS
TRAILBLAZER AWARDS
About 125 people attended the New
York Association of Black Journalists' second annual Trailblazer Awards
reception, held June 19, 2003. The event, which honors early- and mid-career
journalists, was held at Justin's Restaurant and Bar in Manhattan. NYABJ
honored Marcus Mabry, chief of correspondents at Newsweek; Sharon Epperson,
a correspondent for CNBC Business News, and Garry Pierre-Pierre, publisher
of the Haitian Times. Tischelle George received the chapter's Volunteer
of the Year Award for her work with its high school journalism workshop.
