PABJ MEETING NOTES
May 8, 2001

March 12, 2002
Oct. 9, 2001
April 12, 2001

From President Sherry L. Howard:
As always, we had a lively monthly meeting, topped off with comments from Herb Lowe, a candidate for NABJ president and a former PABJ member, and Deborah Bolling, Philadelphia Inquirer suburban reporter who has just returned from a fellowship to South Africa.

Tickets for the June 2 performance of Arthur Mitchell's Dance Theater of Harlem at the Mann Center are selling briskly. Everyone who's anybody wants to see these famous dancers. So please don't miss out. We are still selling tickets as a PABJ fund-raiser. Tickets are $40 and $50. Please let us know if you would like to purchase tickets.

We are also putting the finishing touches on a roundtable panel featuring Mitchell, Joan Myers Brown of Philadanco, Roy Kaiser of the Pennsylvania Ballet and Rennis Harris of Puremovement (we're still working to get Harris). The topic: Perfect Motion: A Discussion on the Evolution and Diversity of Dance. The moderator is Denise Saunders, a news anchor at KYW-TV. The discussion will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in the public room on the first floor of the Inquirer-Daily News Building, 400 N. Broad St. This is going to be a dynamite discussion and we hope you'll be there.

We soon will be awarding our annual scholarships to high school students interested in journalism. Each year, PABJ hands out two $500 scholarships to deserving students. This is our way of giving back to the community -- which makes it even more important that all of us support the organization through memberships and fundraisers.

We said goodbye to our vice president for print, Chad Broussard, who's moving to San Antonio, Texas. He says he'll be back to attend graduate school here. Good luck, Chad. I will appoint an acting vice president by our next meeting on June 12.

Don't forget June 2 at the Mann. The more tickets PABJ sells the more we can boost our bank account so that we can give out more scholarships, and offer more community programs and services to members.
