Making News in Philadelphia:
Media Access Workshop
Date: May 18, 2002, 8 a.m. to
2:30 p.m.
Registration starts promptly at 8 a.m. Workshop, 9 a.m.
Purpose:
To offer tips and other guidance to community organizations, nonprofits,
business people, public relations specialists and college students on ways
to get their events covered.
Location: Inquirer/Daily News Building, Broad
and Callowhill Streets.
Free parking in the company parking lot in the rear of the building, entrance
on Callowhill Street.
Cost: Event is free. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
Facilitators: Journalists from television, radio and newspapers will be on hand to discuss how news decisions are made, how to pitch a story and what their news outlets consider to be newsworthy.
What you should bring: A story idea or news of an upcoming event that you would like to have covered. You will work in a small group with journalists who will assist you in fine-tuning your story idea and writing a press release. The journalists will offer tips on how to sell your idea to time-strapped reporters and editors.
