Scholarship amount: Two one-year $1,000 scholarships
Applicants must be deserving high school seniors or
college students who reside in the Delaware Valley. They must have a cumulative
grade point average of at least 2.5 (or C+), and must submit a copy of their
transcript along with the application.
All applicants must state their intention to
pursue journalism careers.
Application
deadline: Postmarked by May 1, 2007.
No exceptions will be made. Applications not
postmarked May 1 will be discarded.
Requirements:
High school applicants:
* Must write a two-page profile, story or
interview with a person they respect or admire, such as a teacher, community
leader, parent, or role model.
* Submit a writing sample (either a story published in a school or other newspaper,
an essay for a class or other published sample of their work).
* Provide two letters of recommendation in a sealed envelope with the person's
signature across the seal. One of the letters should be from a current English
teacher.
College applicants:
* Must submit an essay on why they are pursuing
a journalism career.
* Must submit a writing sample, such as a class essay, short story or published
news article (for print applicants), or a 1:30 minute to 3 minute videotape
or audiotape (for broadcast journalists).
* Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, supervisor or mentor.
