Knight
Ridder Minority Scholars Program
The program offers up to $40,000 in scholarship funds to graduating high
school seniors. Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. (PNI) chooses four local winners
and recommends them to Knight Ridder.
Each local winner receives a one-time $500 award from PNI. Knight Ridder
will select up to four scholars for internships in the news-gathering and
business sides of the company. The scholars will be chosen from among local
winners submitted by all KR newspapers.
To continue to qualify after chosen, scholars must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout
college. They are assigned to work as interns at a Knight Ridder newspaper
each summer until graduation. Scholars commit to work for the KR company
for at least one year after graduation.
